Introduction

Tourism is becoming an important area of cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, economic development and stronger people-to-people connections. Both countries share historical, cultural and spiritual links through the ancient Silk Road, making tourism a valuable bridge between their communities.

Uzbekistan is known for its historic cities, Islamic heritage, beautiful architecture and cultural attractions, while Pakistan offers mountains, valleys, historical landmarks and diverse natural landscapes. Strengthening tourism cooperation can help both countries attract more international visitors, support local businesses and develop new travel opportunities.

In February 2026, Pakistan and Uzbekistan reaffirmed their commitment to expanding tourism cooperation during the state visit of Uzbekistan's President to Pakistan. Both sides agreed to activate their Tourism Working Group, develop joint tourism promotion plans and encourage partnerships between travel operators.

Tourism Opportunities Between Pakistan and Uzbekistan

Both countries have attractive destinations that can appeal to different types of international travellers.

Popular destinations in Uzbekistan include:

- Samarkand – Famous for its historical monuments and Islamic architecture.

- Bukhara – Known for its ancient mosques, madrasas and cultural heritage.

- Tashkent – A modern city with museums, markets and historical attractions.

- Khiva – Recognized for its preserved historic architecture.

Popular destinations in Pakistan include:

- Hunza Valley – Famous for its mountains and natural beauty.

- Skardu – Known for lakes, glaciers and mountain landscapes.

- Lahore – Rich in Mughal architecture, history and culture.

- Swat Valley – Popular for its scenic landscapes and cultural attractions.

Promoting these destinations through joint tourism campaigns can encourage visitors to explore both countries.

Improving Air Connectivity and Travel Opportunities

Better air connectivity is essential for increasing tourism between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Direct flights make travel more convenient for tourists, business visitors and families.

According to Uzbekistan's Tourism Committee, six direct flights per week were operating between the two countries in August 2026: four between Tashkent and Lahore and two between Tashkent and Islamabad. A new Tashkent-Karachi service was planned for September 2026.

Improved flight connections, convenient travel arrangements and cooperation between travel agencies can help increase tourist arrivals.

Promoting Business and Cultural Partnerships

Tourism cooperation also creates opportunities for private businesses. In May 2026, Uzbekistan hosted a Pakistani tourism industry delegation for business meetings involving 24 Pakistani tour operators and approximately 50 Uzbek tourism companies.

The discussions focused on developing joint travel packages, establishing business partnerships and increasing tourist flows between the countries.
